My words have been getting jumbled up lately.
In speech and debate, you’re always supposed to “prep” a speech. Whether it’s a 10 minute Original Advocacy or a 7 minute Extemporaneous it’s always necessary to plan out your thoughts before you speak.
A midst everyday conversation, I’ve noticed that I’ve recently become more and more tongue tied whenever someone asks me deep questions. (This development has only happened in the last three weeks I would say) What are you up to, what are your thoughts on religion, what do you think about the campaign, what is… you get the point. For a person who prides himself on his abilities to think and communicate on a higher level, I’ve been quite disappointed.
So sitting here at 1:43am has got me thinking maybe the reason why is because I haven’t been sitting and thinking to myself very much. Essentially, I haven’t given myself enough time to “prep”. Before getting involved in Dr. Matthew Lin’s Campaign I had an excessive amount of time to myself. My days would be composed of pondering ted talks videos, articles on the web, and books.
Now, I’m in one of three places. In the car, in the office, or in my bed. None of which have given me much time to think and ponder.
So this post is a little reminder for myself to make time. We get caught up very easily in everyday operations, so it’s important to remember to make time for ourselves. Instead of entertaining yourself with tumblr and 9gag, go ahead and sit back and close your eyes. Let your mind wander for a good five minutes. If the conversation in your head is interesting, don’t stop! It may end up being preparation for a deep conversation down the road =]
